New Website is Big Change

This new NMCCSC website represents a major change in our communication, both to our members and among our members. It will continue to have the basic information about the club and our activities. But there will be two big changes. The first one you will notice right away: a lot more pictures, of our activities and of our members. We will be presenting our members having fun at what we do: cross country skiing. And the best way to do that is to show lots of members, lots of laughs, having lots of fun skiing.

The second thing is interactive communication. There will be many places for members to interact with the site. First, we will have lots of articles, written by members who were there, with lots of pictures showing their smiling faces. If you are interested in being one of them all you have to do is ask. We will set you up, train you, and help familiarize you with what you need to do to write about your skiing activities with the club. We will also have our various committee chairs doing their own writing, to the extent that they wish to do so.

Then we will also have comment sections after articles so you can weigh in on things like wishing you had been there. We will eventually have a Forum section so you can give opinions, try to buy or sell used equipment, discuss the issues surrounding various types of equipment, and maybe even the weather.

We will also have member accounts. This will allow you to set or change some of your communication preferences as your interests change. We will be tying the website database to our email system, too. This way we will be able to support sub-groups of members. So one group, say those working on developing the instruction program, can have a vibrant discussion that will ensure nobody gets dropped from the conversation and at the same time avoids bothering everybody else with lots of emails they aren't really interested in.

Looking forward, we will be planning the next steps, which will be to have on-line signups for membership and trips, and to have on-line payments. We also will be able to tie the site to additional Social Media sites.

So we ask you to tell us what you think by leaving your comments below.
