AIARE Avalanche Class for Club Members

The ski club is sponsoring level one avalanche education specifically for ski club members. This means the class will be located where skiers have access (you won't have to ski black diamonds). Members should be able to handle class 2 terrain.

If you ski day tours in Colorado back-country or if you want to go on hut trips, this class is recommended.  If you haven't had a class in 5 or 6 years, it's also time to update.

robs susanrSchedule: Dec. 2 & 3, 5:00-9:00 p.m. and Dec. 5 & 6, all day. The class requires 24 hours of instruction so participants must attend all sessions. Classroom sessions will be held in Cedar Crest while the outdoor portion of the class will be at the Taos Ski Valley or Ski Santa Fe. Specific course location will be based on student's ski abilities.

Cost: $300, minus any club scholarship. We've been given a $50 discount from the regular cost of $350, and club scholarships may be applied, so the class will cost considerably less than traveling to Colorado for several days. This is a great opportunity.

Equipment: Participants must bring an avalanche beacon, shovel with handle and avalanche probes. You may borrow these from other club members or purchase at a discount through the instructor's pro-deals.
