The second hut trip for the 2017 ski season will be to the Polar Star Hut. Polar Star Inn is a privately owned backcountry lodge, booked by 10th Mountain. Polar Star Inn is a tall-standing structure with a big deck that looks west over the Colorado Plateau: a sunset watcher's paradise. There are six private bedrooms and running water (summer & winter) that makes kitchen work a snap. The Inn was built in 1987. It is located just below timberline at 11,040' on the west side of New York Mountain, in central Colorado. It offers access to excellent skiing on New York Mountain, which rises just above the hut. Right next door is the Seipel Hut, it is booked separately but often used in conjunction with the Polar Star Inn for larger parties needing additional capacity. Maps of much of the ski terrain is available at Polar Star Maps.

You can find a fun article on a trip to the hut at Polar Star . For more information on the location, routes and terrain, and more, see this site.

The trip will be from Feb 27 through Mar 4, 2017, including travel times. We will travel up on Monday, Feb 27, and stay overnight in a motel in Eagle before driving in to the Yeoman Park trail head in the morning. We will be skiing in on the Newcomer Spring trail to the hut. For variety, we will come out through the Fulford Road trail.

This is an advanced trip, with a 2100 foot elevation gain and a last pitch that is very steep up to the hut. Avy gear is required for the trip. We will have an opportunity to test our navigation skills on the way in.

Cost for the trip is $159 plus travel, motels, and food.  If you are interested, contact Guy at HutTrips@NMCCSkiClub.org for further information.

Additional information will be included here as it becomes available.
