ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A road closure and 25 positions yet to be filled has delayed the opening to the Sandia Peak Ski area.

"We're trying hard for this weekend. But, we're definitely having some limitations here," said Ben Abruzzo the Sandia Peak Ski general manager.

Abruzzo said the road to the base of the ski area has been closed for about a week and it’s seriously handicapped their ability to open things up.

NM DOT said they’ve been focusing on main arterial roads and hope to plow the road to the ski area in a day or two.

Sandia Peak will be holding a job fair Thursday at the New Mexico Ski Museum from 10am to 6pm. Pending road conditions, a job fair on Friday is planned to be at the base of Sandia Peak from 10am-2pm.

Most positions are for people over 18 years old. They are looking to hire all types of positions from ski instructors to food service employees.

Abruzzo said the opening day could be anytime in the next 3-7 days.
