The ski club is sponsoring introductory level avalanche education through the American Institute of Avalanche Research and Education. If you are interested, contact Susan Russo, instruction chair, as soon as possible. The classroom sessions will be held locally and the outdoor component will be held in either Ski Santa Fe or Taos Ski Valley.

The course requires 24 hours of instruction and students must attend all sessions.  Class will meet two weekday evenings from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Dec. 2 & 3, and all day Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5-6. There will be no class on Friday, Dec. 4. The trip listing on the calendar was broken into two listings so it would not appear there was class on Friday.

This class will be a full AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Safety class, with 24 hours of instruction taught by Marc Beverly, owner and instructor with Beverly Mountain Guides.  Cost will be $300 /person (a discount of $50 from the normal price), less ski club scholarship. One hotel night in Taos, Taos Ski Valley if the course is held at Taos. A deposit of $75 is required by October 15, 2015.

Each student will need a transciever (beacon), avalanche probe, and shove with a handle. If you don't own these, you can borrow one from friends or the instructor.

The curriculum for the course is the curriculum developed by the American Institute for Avalanche Research & Education (AIARE) Level 1 Avalanche Education. You will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the class. This class is a prerequisite for any of the more advanced AIARE Avalanche Safety classes. For more information, see
